Running with Big Stitches

Supply list for Running with Big Stitches:
Bring a small quilt (20” x 20” up to about 40” or so) which has been layered with batting and backing. Use your preferred method of basting. I use large running stitches about every five inches apart. Pre-printed panels are ideal for practice. It’s nice to have some background and/or border areas.
You will also need:
? Size 22 Tapestry/Chenille needle
? #8 pearl cotton thread. A number of basic colors are available at Michael’s. I will alsobring thread for use in class.? A thimble. If you haven’t used one, it should fit snugly on the middle finger of your dominant hand. This is really a must, even if you are not used to using a thimble.
? Small scissors or thread snips
? Your phone, fully charged. We will be taking lots of pictures as we work. It’s a good wayto take notes, as well.
Optional Supplies:
? Large embroidery hoop, if you want to use one. I don’t. I will have one you can try out in class.
? Small portable light. We will be discussing the basic running stitch, background fillers, and traditional motifs such as feathers. We will talk about different ways to mark your quilt, and see examples of original designs Please note that I do not teach the traditional rocking quilting stitch. If you use it already, it will be easy for you to pick up the bigger stitches. If not, you should be able to learn to enjoy this kind of quilting as much as I do.
